Guest cards and visitor’s tax

In most Swiss destinations, guests receive a guest card as soon as they spend a night in the destination. These guest cards offer various advantages, such as free use of public transport, discounts on certain services, attractions or activities.

These guest cards are financed by the tourist tax, which varies from one municipality to another.

On this page, you will find an explanation of the tourist tax and a list of the entity responsible for collecting it.

We invite owners who entrust us with their accommodation to inform the relevant authority that they are letting out their property and to pay out the tax collected.

What is tourist tax used for?

Paid by guests, the tourist tax is intended in particular to :

  • maintaining and developing tourist facilities
  • organising events and activities
  • financing the tourist information service

It is therefore a significant contribution to the appeal of the destination in which you own your property.

By collecting tourist tax, destinations are also able to collect statistics on tourist behaviour.
